I've been making game art since '95 when I bought a PC and got into the Quake community under the nickname of Rorshach with the intention of learning how to make games (I am aware that there is a missing c).
First I ended up just playing a lot of Quake, then playing in the Quakelords clan and that led to my offering to make our clan skin. I liked doing that so I did about 500 more, made levels, weapons, huds, sounds, pickups... everything I could until someone paid me to do it for a living and then I gradually stopped making Quake stuff. Along the way I met a woman named Kirsten, liked her, married her and travelled Europe with her for a while before returning back to Scotland to make babies.

In 2003 Nikitta Johnstone was born screaming into the world in Kilmarnock, I promised her I would look after her for as long as I was able and in the end that meant moving to Cary, NC to work at Scion at the start of 2004.... a week later Scion merged with Epic and thats where I've been since then.
Eventually I made enough great games here to feel more satisfied and safe so Kirsten and I set to having another baby. Nuala Johnstone was ushered into the world, utterly silent on September 2008 here in Cary and I made her the same promise I made her sister.

And now I find myself in need of another outlet like I used to have when I ran my old Rorshach's Journal site.
This time though, the work is just for myself.

You can see by the section names that I agree that most art is made either for Love or for Money and though the lines often blur between those 2 things for me as I love my job, the Love section really is my attempt to get back to my own mad wee notions again. It contains a lot of embarassing old work, but it was the vehicle I rode to get here so I leave it up to show the road I came by as I always enjoy seeing how others got where they did.

As I write this I am intent on using the words section now and then, because I find the need for that more as I age and I miss rambling on like I used to on my journal. Eventually I will update the help section too, but as with most art sites, my own learning is more of a priority than others :)

Anyway, thats me I guess, I hope you enjoy the site, I hope it gives you inspiration.
